The WYPs Rockstar of the Month showcases a WYPs member who is making outstanding contributions to further the mission of the Whatcom Young Professionals. Typically a Rockstar is someone who:
Attended weekly buzz meeting- 2 out of the 4 weeks
Attended monthly social event
Went above and beyond their membership-participated/helped with an event
Did something awesome in their business, i.e- awards or nominations
Charitable works- giving back to the community and fulfilling our mission as a Whatcom Young Professionals.
Each month a new Rockstar will be presented with a certificate of appreciation as well as a Rockstar energy drink to keep him/her amped up about WYPs!
Our Most Recent Rockstars are:
November/December - Layne Johnson - Waddell and Reed
There was no doubt in our minds who was deserving of the final Rockstar award for 2009… Layne Johnson, Financial Advisor with Waddell and Reed! Layne is a devoted Bakerview Buzz attendee, and went above and beyond in the battle of the Buzzes at this year’s Buzz OFF by raising a significant amount of donation dollars. Layne is also at EVERY social… he offers not only help but constructive feedback to make WYPs the best organization it can be! We truly appreciate Layne’s participation with the WYPs and are proud to name him our Nov/Dec ROCKSTAR! Thank you Layne, you truly fulfill our mission statement! YOU ROCK!!
October 2009 - Christine Jenkins - The Lakeway Inn If you haven’t met Christine, or attended one of their FABULOUS events at the Lakeway Inn and Conference Center, you are missing out! Christine is full of energy and always willing to support the Whatcom Young Professsionals! The Lakeway Inn and Conference Center hosts an evening social every year, and their events- sometimes free too- are a blow out of fun! Christine and her staff go the extra mile to make networking more fun for all of us! Thank you Christine, you are truly a ROCKSTAR!
September 2009 - Katy Denooyer - Hecht Aesthetic Center
What can we say about Katy… she is awesome! Katy’s smile is always present at the Barkley Buzz group as well as at EVERY social! Katy, who works for Hecht Aesthetic Center, is always the first to arrive and always willing to lend a hand, and last to leave! Katy also has stepped up and played an integral role in helping with check-in at events! WYPs is lucky to have such a dynamic member in our organization. Thank you Katy, you are a ROCKSTAR!
August 2009 - Marc Youngberg - Signs by Tomorrow
Congratulations to this month’s Rock Star! Marc Youngberg, co-owner of Signs by Tomorrow with his wife, deserves this award for his overall “awesomeness.” Signs By Tomorrow, has not only been an Evening Social Sponsor and regular Down town Buzz attendee, but their company went above and beyond in support of the 2009 WYPs Buzz OFF! May 2009 - Scott Hume - RBC This month’s rock star has been a WYPs member from the very beginning! He is a dedicated Buzz attendee at the Barkley Buzz location. Scott Hume, with RBC Wealth Management, has supported and participated in the Buzz Off for the past three years as well as sponsoring evening socials. Scott is a great example of a WYPs member that continually goes above and beyond!
April 2009 - Nancy Leavitt - American Family Insurance Nancy Levitt was chosen as this month’s WYPs Rockstar not only because she is a diehard wypster… but Nancy makes WYPs a priority for her entire team at American Family Insurance. Nancy’s company fulfills the WYPs mission every day through their dedication to networking, community, and philanthropy. March 2009 - Scott Petersen - This month’s ROCKSTAR is so deserving of this award, not only for his dedication and commitment to the networking side of the Whatcom Young Professionals, but also our mission to build our community through philanthropy! Scott Petersen is always there to lend a hand, and actively participates in all of the WYPs’ sponsored charitable events. February 2009 - Jeanette Coffey from Pre Paid Legal - If you haven’t met Jeanette, I don’t know where or what you have been doing? Jeanette is Ms. Networking! You will see her participating in local networking groups, and in and around town with various community projects. Jeannette, with Pre Paid Legal Services, has been a dedicated WYPs member since the group’s conception in 2006! She attends the Bakerview Buzz weekly, the socials monthly, as well as sponsoring a past social. Congratulations Jeanette, you are definitely a WYPs Rockstar!
January 2009 - Angela Abshere from Silpada Designs -Angela is a total WYPs fanatic. She buzzes around the Barkley Buzz from time to time but she has recently made the switch to the NEW Ferndale Buzz at the Woods Coffee. She is quick to tell a joke, invite you to a party, or try to help you solve a problem. She has been a WYPs member since early on and is our host for our April 2009 Social! Angela is also very involved in the community. She has helped organize many charitable events and is always willing to donate a great prize! Thanks Angela!!
December 2008 - Keshava Marvin from Costco. Keshava has been a truly energetic and valuable part of the Whatcom Young Professionals. Not only does Keshava regularly attend several of the Buzzes, he also steps up and makes donations for the annual Buzz-Off as well as for our December Social. Keshava is always ready with a helping hand and a warm smile. Thank you Keshava from all of us at WYPs.
